At this point in Golden Globe history, Meryl Streep has received the most nominations of any actor. Meryl received an additional nomination for best performance by a supporting female actor for her work in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building following the announcement of the 81st Golden Globes nominations on Monday, raising her total to an incredible 33.
Meryl Streep received her 33rd nomination for the critically acclaimed Hulu series in which she portrays Loretta Durkin, an actress who later becomes Martin Short’s love interest after appearing in a musical by Oliver Putnam. Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Abby Elliott (The Bear), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), J. Smith-Cameron (Succession), and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) are the fierce competitors she will be up against in this category.
Meryl has spent decades winning awards, including nine Golden Globes. Her roles in Angels in America, The Iron Lady, The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Julie & Julia, The Devil Wears Prada, Sophie’s Choice, and Kramer vs. Kramer have earned her accolades. At the ceremony in 2017, the actor went on to receive the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement.
Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Selena Gomez), and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Steve Martin and Martin Short) were the only five nominations that Only Murders in the Building received for the ceremony.
Developed by Steve and John Hoffman, the comedy-drama series made its debut in August of 2021. June 2022 saw the beginning of the second season. August 8 of this year saw the release of the third season. In India, the show airs on Disney+ Hotstar.
