Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark the end of this iteration of the cosmic team of Marvel heroes. Speaking to Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast, director James Gunn, who will helm the final part of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, the upcoming trio will be the last time audiences will see Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Dave Bautista’s Drax , Bradley Cooper and Sean Gunn’s Rocket Raccoon, Zoe Saldana’s Gamora and Vin Diesel’s Groot unite to save the universe.
“It’s the end for us, the last time people will see this Guardian team. “
Along with bringing us this devastating, but not surprising, news, Gunn continued to tease the film’s scope and tone. While the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has always managed to approach things with a wry, technicolor smile, it looks like things are about to get really dark.
“It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might expect. I just want to be true to the characters, to the story, and to give people the conclusion they deserve for the story. It’s always a bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
James Gunn is feeling the pressure to complete the journey of this now iconic team of heroes. But, for what it’s worth, he’s fully aware of audience expectations and seems ready to meet them head-on. “I’m aware that the third movie in most trilogies sucks; not always, ”assured the filmmaker.
