Haryana Twin Sisters: Unknown Facts About The First Indians To Complete Mountaineering Slam

Sporting the same outfit – grey top, blue denims and even matching emerald contact lenses- they speak with passion about mountains. In April, Nungshi and Tashi Malik, twins from Sonepat, Haryana, became the only Indians – in fact, the only south Asians – to complete the Explorers Grand Slam

-First Indians to win the mountaineering grand slam ( the North Pole, the South Pole and all of the Seven Summits).

-The 23-year-old sisters from Sonepat are also the youngest in the world to have completed the challenge in April

-As women from a conservative Haryanvi community making a foray into a field that is heavily tilted in favour of men, the girls did struggle to make everyone believe in them, especially when it came to sponsorship.

– their once-reluctant mother took a loan and their father, an army officer, put all his savings at stake.

-Prime Minister Narendra Modi made them the ambassadors of the Beti Bachao campaign.

-They have lost 25 of their climber friends in the last one and a half year.

-The usually cheerful twins leave loving notes for their parents before embarking on dangerous missions, knowing that they may not come back.
