For those who are unaware of the fact that how sitting for long hours in front of the screen can affect us, let us tell you that these devices emit blue light which has the potential to damage your eyes. The blue light emitted from technology can lead to macular degeneration that results in causing vision loss according to the study conducted at the University of Toledo, by scientists. Macular degeneration is an eye disease that happens when the small central portion of the retina wears down
Here’s how the blue light effect you
First, let us tell you that light is made of different colors which when combined becomes the white light. Each of these has a different wavelength and less energy. But the color with the least energy and shorter-wavelength is blue. Laptop, smartphone, and other such devices emit this light that leads to digital eye strain and retina damage. It also affects the vision and could prematurely age the eyes. The reason behind this is that our eyes are not good at blocking the blue light. It passes through the cornea and lens and reaches the retina.
