Did you know that human DNA is largely identical to the DNA of bananas, cockroaches and monkeys? Do you want to know how much DNA we share with other animals and things? Then you should quickly watch the video below!
In this video from WatchData you can see how much DNA we share with other animals and things on Earth:
How much DNA do we share with a banana?
Did you know that we are about 60 percent genetically identical to bananas? Think about that when you eat a yellow rascal, what you could call your half-brother!
In addition, we also resemble other foods. We also share about 40 percent of our DNA with apples and 45 percent of our DNA with lettuce. In terms of genetics, people also have a lot in common with mushrooms, cucumbers and trees. So tell me, which piece of fruit or vegetable are you most like?
How much DNA do we share with monkeys?
That humans share a lot of DNA with monkeys is probably no longer news to you. But, did you know that our DNA is about 99 percent similar to the monkeys? That is quite a lot and so you can see that a few percent difference makes a lot of difference!
How much DNA do we share with other animals?
Those who would rather not be called a monkey can breathe easy. We also share a lot of DNA with other animals from the animal kingdom. Perhaps you feel more resemblance to pigs? Our DNA is about 98 percent identical to the pink critters. That saves only 2 percent and that is the difference between becoming a roulade yourself or eating the roulade!
So our DNA is very similar to that of pigs, but did you know that our DNA also looks suspiciously like that of a cockroach? These critters have been around much longer than we humans have and our DNA is about 35 percent the same.
Speaking of dinosaurs, we also share DNA with them. Humans are about 37 percent genetically identical to the T-Rex. If you have another binge, you can always say that the dino in you has woken up!
We also share a lot of DNA with the tougher animals. For example, we are approximately 85 percent similar to lions and with a DNA similarity of 96 percent to tigers, you can claim that you are a wild animal.
The elephant is also on the list of animals with which we share a lot of DNA. Humans are about 89 percent equal to elephants. In men you might be able to see that on the trunk.
Finally, we also share a lot of DNA with dogs, namely about 94 percent. Humans look slightly less like cats with a genetic similarity of 90 percent.
