In a shocking revelation, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor has said that she was molested as a child and it was traumatising for her.
Sonam Kapoor made this revelation in an interview with Rajeev Masand and opened up candidly about how that traumatising experience affected her for a very long time.
Actor Anil Kapoor’s daughter was speaking at a roundtable that included Bollywood leading female stars including Anushka Sharma, Vidya Balan, Radhika Apte and Alia Bhatt.
In conversation with Rajeev Masand during the round-table that included 2016’s strongest performers, Sonam Kapoor said :
“I know I have been molested when I was younger. And it was very traumatising.”
Sonam is known to be brutally honest and bold with her words.
As the conversation turns to sexual assault, Vidya Balan responded to Sonam by saying, “It’s not her fault and that is the biggest thing a victim deals with.”
Anushka Sharma recounts how, as a child, she would often be asked by her mother if she had been touched inappropriately. “I thought there was something wrong with my mother because obviously I had no idea what she was asking then,” Anushka said.
These five ladies have given the strongest performance in 2016. Sonam stunned everyone with her portrayal of Neerja Bhanot, a flight attendant who died while saving the lives of passengers on the ill-fated Pan Am flight.
This will surely inspire more and more women to open up about any abuse which they underwent and are hiding from everyone. Opening up about such past incident may not make much change but they will surely be able to relieve that pain from their chest and move on from the damage it did emotionally.
