Think about Delhi and the first thing that came to your mind is the iconic statue of Lord Hanuman which is 108-foot long. In fact, the shot of a Delhi Metro train whizzing by in front of Karol Bagh’s temple has been used in a number of movies and TV serials depicting the national capital. But it seems now it is in danger!
According to the news, “the Delhi High Court on Monday suggested the local authorities ponder over “airlifting” of the Hanuman statue in central Delhi in order to remove the encroachments around it or to tackle the congestion.” The order came when a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar gave the suggestion. It all happened after hearing a petition by an NGO seeking removal of unauthorized constructions and encroachments.
In its statement, the court said,
“Consider if the statue can be airlifted. Speak to the LG. You know, in the US, entire skyscrapers are shifted as a whole.”
The court further said,
“If the civic bodies could at even one place show that the law was being enforced, “the mindset of the people of Delhi would change”.
The statue has become a landmark of the city and has appeared in a number Bollywood films.
