Award nights are always fun filled with scintillating performances, moving winning speeches and of course some funny banter between two hosts. About a decade back Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan set the ball rolling with some amazing hosting skills, keeping the audience thoroughly entertained with their series of jokes and jibes.
Last night, IIFA 2015 was aired and Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor turned hosts for the very first time. While they certainly couldn’t match the high standard set by SRK and Saif, here are few laugh out loud moments from the show that left us in splits:
Aamir we are sorry song
Aamir Khan had expressed his anger after wathcing the infamous AIB Roast of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Keeping that in mind, Ranveer and Arjun came up with their own unique way of saying sorry. They sang a parody on Aamir, who had called the roast violent rather than funny. “Hume maaf karna, O Aamir Khan. Hum kabhi nhi lenge Reema Lagoo and Farida Jalal ka naam,” they sang.
Govinda’s Stop That revisited
Looks like our hosts haven’t forgotten about the furore that AIB roast created and the kind of protest that came from all corners of the society. And in their very own way they mocked the politicians who filed FIR against them. The baba’s Arjun and Ranveer sang their very own version of Govinda’s famous rap song Stop That. Through out the song, they took jibes at media, Anurag Kashyap, Censor board and even pondered on the latest trend of heroines giving back to back hits.
Ranbir Kapoor targeted
It is very well known that 2015 has not been such a great year for Ranbir Kapoor at box office. Both his films Roy and Bombay Velvet flopped and eventually came under the scanner of our crazy hosts Ranveer and Arjun. They claimed that Roy should be called ‘DestROY’. And later they took jibes at Ranbir by making fun of his name in Bombay Velvet Johnny Balraj. “Ranbir should be named Roti in the film because his co-star Anushka was called Rosie and that makes them Rosie-Roti. And they both took the Rosie-Roti away from Anurag Kashyap’s pocket,” the hosts chuckled.
Shahid Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi – two birds in one stone
Ranveer and Arjun took potshots at two actors in one go. Shahid Kapoor also became the butt of their jokes when they introduced the Haider star saying, “Where is Emraan Hashmi. He must not be visible because he played invisible man in Mr X. And our Shahid Kapoor is Mr Sab ka Ex.” Now that’s what we call ‘Ek teer se do nishane’
Bipasha Basu trolled
When Bipasha Basu turned up late and alone, our hosts couldn’t hide their glee as they asked,”Bipasha, why have you come ‘Alone’? Why don’t you bring any ‘Creature’ along with you?” Now that’s a subtle way of making fun of two of her flop horror films – Alone and Creature.
DDLJ in Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Prabhu Dheva style
As Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge completed 1000 weeks this year, Ranveer and Arjun decided to enact the famous train climax of DDLJ. While Arjun became Babuji aka Amrish Puri, Ranveer Singh stepped into Simran aka Kajol. Soon they started to enact the scene from the point of view of directors like Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Prabhu Dheva. While Prabhu Dheva style DDLJ imvolved a lot of dancing, Karan Johar’s DDLJ involved rich snotty Simran speaking urban English, who doesn’t want to travel by train. The most hilarious of them all was Anurag Kashyap version of DDLJ which involved the characters speaking in crude Bhojpuri.
Deepika Padukone’s Piku became a part of Ranveer’s indecent proposal
When Deepika came to receive the ‘Woman of the Year’ honour, Ranveer got down on his knees to flatter her with his romantic poetry. He also hinted at their relationship by singing the song “Ram chahe Leela, Leela Chahe Ram” from their 2013 love saga ‘Ram Leela’. When a fan of Deepika screamed ‘I love you’, Ranveer shot back at him and said, “Take it easy, bro”. Well that’snot all, Ranveer read a poetry for Deepika when he was down on one knee with a heart in his hand. Exactly at that point, Arjun took a jibe on his BFF Ranveer when he uttered this line from Piku, ” Har motion se judaa ek emotion hota hai.”
