Karan Johar’s Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl featuring Jhanvi Kapoor has faced a backlash. As the IMDb rating of the film is currently 4.5/10.
After the success of Dhadak, Janhvi Kapoor‘s next Bollywood release Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl was premiered on 12th August on Netflix. The film is a biopic of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, who became the first woman Indian Air Force (IAF). Set in the early ’80s. The film is based on the story of a girl who wished to become a pilot, in the era when the women were just meant to look after the house and family. However, Janhvi who is playing this character tries to break the stereotype. And that’s what the film is based on.
The movie was slated to release in theatres in April. But due to the pandemic that lead to a global shutdown, the release got postponed. And later it was set for its digital release. After the movie released, the fans around the world went on to rate the movie on IMDB. Which was later found to be 4.6 out of 10 with around 5000 votes. Well, we would say that in spite of a great storyline the film faced a backlash because of the ongoing discussion about nepotism and the other reason was that it was produced by Karan Johar. Not only this but some users have also started the hashtag #BoycottGunjanSaxena. The Indian Air Force also complained to the Censor board on the negative portrayal of certain characters in the movie.
In an interview when Jhanvi Kapoor was asked how she feels about the negative aspects, the movie is facing despite of all efforts. She said that she is still quite optimistic and sure the people will like the story. Even though the Dharak actress spoke positive but the reality is that the controversies around the film have affected its IMDb rating badly.
