In Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, the cost of eggs has skyrocketed to 400 Pakistani Rupees (PKR) a dozen, according to ARY News, which cited market sources on Sunday.
In contrast to the government-set price of PKR 175 per kg, onions are being sold for between 230 and 250 PKR per kg, according to the report. According to ARY News, chicken is being sold in Lahore for PKR 615 per kg, while the cost of a dozen eggs has increased to PKR 400.
The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) was instructed by the Economic collaboration Committee (ECC) last month to keep up routine collaboration with the province governments for steps to guarantee price stability and to prevent stockpiling and profiteering.
Shamshad Akhtar, the acting federal minister for finance, revenue, and economic affairs, chaired the cabinet committee meeting, according to ARY News, which cited a press release from the finance ministry.
