A report by Transparency International has declared India as the most corrupt country in Asia Pacific region. Interestingly, the Forbes India tweeted the article again on Friday as the report was first published in March 2017. India beats Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan, and Myanmar with a bribery rate of 69 percent.
Vietnam is giving tough competition to India with 65 percent bribery rate. The third, fourth and fifth spot is occupied by Thailand, Pakistan, and Myanmar with a bribery rates of 41 percent and 40 percent each.
According to the Business Standard, the report describes India as: “In five of the six public services – schools, hospitals, ID documents, police, and utility services – more than half the respondents have had to pay a bribe.”
Further, the report describes Pakistan as: “In Pakistan, about three-fourths of respondents perceive most or all of the police to be corrupt. Of the people who encountered either the police or the courts, nearly seven in ten had to pay a bribe. Sadly, people don’t feel things can change-only a third think ordinary people can make a difference.”
