1) Kulbhushan Jadhav
Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested by Pakistan security forces from restive Balochistan province on March 3 last year after he reportedly entered from Iran being a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent as claimed by Pakistan itself. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.
2) Ravindra Kaushik
He belonged to Rajasthan and joined RAW in 1975. When he reached Pakistan, he took on the name of Nabi Ahmed. Then he learned Urdu there, got married and joined the Pakistan Army. According to the reports, his cover was blown up in 1983 and he was sentenced to death in 1985 over charges of spying. But life took a turn and his death sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. He died in 2001 in Pakistan’s jail. The reason that came to light was he died due to pulmonary tuberculosis and a heart ailment. He is also known as the Black Tiger.
3) Surjeet Singh
He was arrested in Pakistan in the 1980s. After 30 years, in 2012, fortunately, he returned to his home in Punjab. He even admitted that he was sent to Pakistan to spy for India. He said,
“I was a RAW agent.”
His release was confused with the release of Sarabjit Singh. But he said that,
“I met him recently though I couldn’t meet him today before leaving.”
Later after 3 years in November 2015, Surjeet died of a cardiac arrest.
4) Ram Raj
He worked for an intelligence agency for massive 18 years. He accompanied spies as a guide. Ram Raj was sent to Pakistan as a spy in September 2004 but was caught the next day. After spending 2 years in jail, he was then ultimately sentenced to prison for six years.
5) Gurbaksh Ram
Gurbaksh Ram spent 18 years in Kot Lakhpar jail in Pakistan. He was arrested by Pakistan’s security agencies in 1988. He along with 18 other Indian prisoners were released from jail in 2006.
6) Sarabjit Singh
A biopic on Sarabjit Singh already made us cry! He was by Pakistan’s Military Intelligence Battalion in Kasur district in August 1990. He had charges of spying and planting explosives in Lahore and Faisalabad on August 30, 1990, which killed 10 people and injured 66. In the year 1991, he was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court. He was allegedly attacked by fellow inmates at Kot Lakhpat prison in Lahore on April 26, 2013. He succumbed to injuries on May 2, 2013.
