We all know that Spotify is a major digital music, podcast, and video streaming platform, that has millions of users worldwide. People can “follow” their favorite artists, just like they do on social media. Usually, Western musicians top the list of most-followed artists, but you might be unaware that this time an Indian singer has now taken the lead.
We are talking about the Indian singer Arijit Singh, a popular playback singer. He is now the most-followed artist on Spotify, with 117.5 million followers. The most fortunate and surprising thing is that he recently surpassed American pop star Taylor Swift, who also has 117.5 million followers, but slightly fewer than Arijit. Arijit is famous for his romantic songs in Bollywood and other Indian film industries. Now it’s been a decade since he’s been one of the top singers in India.
Arijit’s journey began on a reality TV show in the late 2000s, and he has since become a leading singer in India, with his soulful voice capturing the hearts of many. However, while Arijit leads in followers, Taylor Swift has more daily listeners on Spotify—around 238,000 compared to Arijit’s 133,000. Other big names like Billie Eilish and The Weeknd also have over 100,000 daily listeners.
Now let’s talk about the singers who are just Below Arijit and Taylor on the most-followed list. And they are Ed Sheeran, with 115 million followers, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Drake, Eminem, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, and Justin Bieber. The popular K-pop group BTS is also quite popular but unfortunately, they are just outside the top 10. Its a proud to know that Arijit Singh made a global impact on Indian music and its growing popularity on platforms like Spotify is proof.
There are a few other Indian artists in the top 50 as well. These names include Legendary composer AR Rahman who is at #20 with 49 million followers, singer Neha Kakkar at #22 with 47 million, music director Pritam at #36 with 35 million, and the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala at #43 with 33 million followers.
