India’s most expensive TV show combining the budget of Fighter, Dunki, and Animal was the most expensive show that aired at Sony from 2017-18. Read to know.
TV shows in India used to be quite simple like watching plays on TV. Shows like Nukkad and Buniyaad were small and about everyday life. But after a decade things changed and in the 2000s, soap operas got a bit bigger, but still not as big as movies. However, a big change took place in the 2010s. TV shows in India got much bigger and more extravagant. There is even a show on Indian television that had a huge budget, even bigger than the most expensive Bollywood movies like Fighter, Dunki, and Animal.
India’s Most Expensive TV Show Porus
There was a show titled Porus that aired on Sony from 2017 to 2018. As per the information, it was the most expensive Indian show ever made. The series had a budget of Rs 500 crore for 299 episodes, making it even pricier than Suryaputra Karn, which cost Rs 250 crore. The show was about the Indian king Porus and his famous battle against Alexander the Great. People liked the show because it had big scenes, cool visuals, and epic battles. What’s interesting is that it didn’t have any big stars. The main role was played by Laksh Lalwani, who hadn’t been a lead actor on TV before. Rohit Purohit, who played Alexander, was known in the TV world but not super famous.
How Porus’ budget was greater than all Indian films
When the most expensive Indian movie Baahubali 2 came Porus was airing. The budget was estimated to be Rs 250 crore. But Porus had double that budget. Even when another expensive movie, 2.0, came out with a Rs 400 crore budget, Porus was still more expensive. Currently, there are a few movies like Kalki 2898 AD, Adipurush, and RRR that surpassed its budget. As they have budgets higher than Porus. But if we calculate the budgets of many recent Indian blockbusters like Animal (Rs 100 crore), Dunki (Rs 120 crore), and Fighter (Rs 250 crore), they still don’t match the budget of Porus.
