Jinder Mahal, an Indo-Canadian professional wrestler, shocked the entire pro-wrestling world by becoming the new #1 contender for the WWE Title. Mahal has emerged as a champion in a 6-pack Challenge match against Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, Mojo Rawley, Dolph Ziggler and Sami Zayn, making him the number-1 contender for Randy Orton’s WWE Championship.
Yuvraj “Raj” Singh Dhesi, better known as Jinder Mahal, began his professional wrestling career at the Martial Arts Fitness Center in Calgary. In early 2010, he signed to a developmental contract with FCW.
According to the Sportskeeda, the WWE is reportedly pleased with his work ethic, as the wrestler is said to be taking his current run with the company very seriously and is working very hard in order to make sure that he earns the opportunities afforded to him by WWE.
On the August 29 episode of NXT, Mahal was defeated by Seth Rollins in the finals of the Gold Rush Tournament, ending his NXT winning streak. At Wrestlemania 33, he was the runner-up in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal out of the 33 participants.
Mahal had also faced the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner Mojo Rawley in his SmackDown debut in a losing effort after interference by Rob Gronkowski. He is of Punjabi Sikh origin and speaks Punjabi and English. Interestingly, Mahal is the nephew of Gama Singh.
With several reports emerging that the upcoming Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton House of Horrors match won’t be a title matchup, on May 21, Mahal will likely face Randy Orton at WWE Backlash.
