As reported since two days, the right holders for the Digital and TV for the IPL contract of 5 years are different.
BCCI’s Honorary Secretary and Asian Cricket Council’s President Mr Jay Shah confirms VIACOM18’s contract for the 5-year deal with the Indian Premier League.
STAR INDIA holds the TV rights while VIACOM18 has the digital rights and as the rumours stated that this time the fans might witness different holders for TV and Digital partners.
STAR has contracted the major deal for 5 years with the BCCI for a whopping amount of ₹23,575 crores which is really a big challenge for IPL to hold such honourable changes from the next year.
VIACOM18 wins the bid for ₹23758 crores and Jay Shah feels that the digital partners will create a revolution for IPL.
Voot will be hosting the IPL for the digital fans and Hotstar will not be promoting any IPL match which comes as a surprising fact for the users who subscribe to Hotstar for IPL primarily.
Voot will have to be subscribed to have an allowance to watch the IPL matches.
BCCI will be planning to put on some efforts after the view-watch in 2022 was comparatively low despite BCCI introducing two new teams.
“Viacom18 bags digital rights with its winning bid of Rs 23,758 cr. India has seen a digital revolution & the sector has endless potential. The digital landscape has changed the way cricket is watched. It has been a big factor in the growth of the game & the Digital India vision,” tweets Jay Shah.
