It’s a luxury to have impact players: MS Dhoni on the Impact Player regulation

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, said on Friday that having an impact player is a luxury for the squad. The new regulation, in the opinion of the ace captain, facilitates decision-making.

A batter or bowler may be substituted in the midst of the game, depending on the match situation, under the recently introduced “Impact Player” rule, making it more exciting.

“It’s a luxury to have (impact players). It becomes slightly easy to take the decision because you can use it at any time,” Dhoni averred at the toss for the tournament commencement with clash between CSK and Gujarat Titans.

But the World Cup-winning captain feels the rule will reduce the role of an all-rounder in the team.
“Influence of all-rounders has become slightly less because of the rule,” Dhoni further added.

“It’s always good to play here. New start, new season, quite exciting. Almost everyone in the country has got motivation from him (Dhoni). Been a fan and admirer of him. Want boys to enjoy it. Result will take care of itself. It’s different – I’ve left it in the coach. Ashu pa works all night on what needs to be done. I don’t know (combination for today),” Hardik Pandya averred after winning the toss and opting to hereafter bowl.
