JAMES CAMERON THREATENED TO FIRE ALL OF HIS “AVATAR” WRITERS

Almost twelve years have passed since Avatar was released in theaters in 2009. Director James Cameron has been working on four sequels for a long time.

The first of these should be in cinemas in December 2022. Continuing the story of Jake Sully and Neytiri, the film will show them how to take on humanity once again.

Sacking writers
To make the sequels as good as possible, Cameron wanted his writers to work as focused as possible. During a recent interview with The Marianne Williamson Podcast, he explained how he did it.

First of all, Cameron told how great he experienced the film’s success. It was “the highest-grossing film in just about every country,” said the director. That put pressure on the sequels.

And so Cameron decided to threaten to fire them.“When I started writing the sequels, I knew there were going to be three. Later that became four. But I put a group of writers together and said I didn’t want to hear anyone’s pitch until we had an analysis of what worked in the first film, where the connections were made. But they wanted to keep talking about the new stories and I had to threaten to fire them because they were doing what writers do, which is to make up new stories. I think we had to find out what worked so well in that first film and kindle that fire. “
