Jamie Foxx’s long-gestating Mike Tyson biopic is finally moving forward, now in the form of a limited biographical series . Simply titled Tyson , the series is said to span Tyson’s entire life, dating back to his troubled youth and his subsequent rise as one of boxing’s most accomplished fighters of all time. At the moment, no network or streaming service is connected yet, but the series is not expected to have any problems finding a home given the high profile names involved.
Colin Preston wrote the pilot for Tyson and is currently writing the rest of the episodes. Training Day Helmer Antoine Fuqua will direct and executive produce via Fuqua Films alongside Martin Scorsese via Sikelia Productions. Foxx will also serve as an executive producer with Tyson and his wife, Kiki Tyson, as well as Sophie Watts and John Ryan Jr. on behalf of Tyson’s Legends Only League. Rick Yorn of LBI Entertainment will also direct production with associate producer Azim Spicer of Legends Only.

“I’ve been trying to tell my story for quite some time,” Mike Tyson said in a statement. “With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement of the fans following my return to the ring, I now feel like the perfect moment. I can’t wait to collaborate with Martin, Antoine, Jamie and the entire creative team to bring the audience a series. which not only captures my professional and personal journey, but also inspires and entertains. ”
It’s known that a Tyson biopic had been in the works for quite some time now, as Jamie Foxx trained hard to prepare to play the hard-hitting fighter. At the time, it was believed that the project would have been a biopic to hit theaters. It’s unclear exactly why the gears were switched to develop Tyson as a limited series instead, but that could be due to the difficulties of trying to bring together so many things that happened from Tyson’s bizarre real life in just one movie.
Meanwhile, Hulu also recently announced a Tyson-centric limited series, but this one comes without Tyson’s direct involvement. When the streamer announced his intention to develop an eight-episode series chronicling the fighter’s life and career, Tyson condemned his exit. He also hinted at another project on his life that was currently underway which appears to be this new bio. Tyson series with Jamie Foxx.
“Hulu’s announcement to make an unauthorized miniseries of Tyson history without compensation, while unfortunate, is not surprising,” Tyson said. “This announcement following social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu corporate greed has led to this muted cultural diversion of the tone of Tyson’s life story.
Tyson added, “Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to black experiences, especially after everything that happened in 2020. The real story authorized by Mike Tyson is in development and will be announced in the next few days. Hulu will herald the theft of the story of a black athlete. during Black History Month could not be more inappropriate or deaf.
