Jassie Gill portrays one of Salman’s siblings in the upcoming Eid blockbuster Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. One of the biggest movies the singer-actor has been in is the Hindi feature. He is one of many Punjabi actors that split their time between the two fields, along with Diljit Dosanjh, Ammy Virk, and Harrdy Sandhu. Jassie gave Diljit credit for altering Bollywood’s perception of Punjabi performers. They were previously primarily perceived as the comic relief in Hindi movies.
Speaking to Mid-Day, the singer-actor shared, “We used to talk about this in Punjab. Earlier in Bollywood, Sardars were shown as comedians. Their look was not even authentic, especially the way they wore turbans. We are thankful to Diljit paaji for changing this. He showed people that Punjabis aren’t comedians, that they are stylish [and created awareness] about the kind of work they do.”
Diljit made history when he made his Coachella debut as the first Punjabi performer in Indio, California. On Sunday, DJ Diplo was also spotted at the actor-singer’s performance. Although they have never collaborated, Diljit and Jassie have stayed in touch in the niche local sector.
Additionally starring in the Farhad Samji-directed film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan are Venkatesh Daggubati, Pooja Hegde, Bhumika Chawla, and Jagapathi Babu, Raghav Juyal and Siddharth Nigam, Shehnaaz Gill, Virali Bhatnagar, and Palak Tiwari.
