Dalit Families Leave Village After Jat-Dalit Clash In Mirchpur Haryana

Tensions clutched Mirchpur in Hisar district, Haryana after some Jat youths reportedly beat up the Dalits following a minor altercation.

Shiv Kumar, a Dalit, won a 1,600-metre-race held at the village on Monday. In the night while watching another cycle show, the attackers had passed a caste associated comment on him. When a group of Dalits protested against the comment, people of other section attacked them.

SP Rajendra Kumar Meena and Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Gajra outreached the spot and deployed extra police force to maintain the state of peace in the region. This is not the first time when the region has witnessed this kind of situation.

Rajat Kalsan, a Dalit activist said-:

“The government should not have withdrawn paramilitary forces from the village. We demand that the government ensure the safety and security of Dalit villagers, and rehabilitate those affected in the 2010 violence,”

Police have assured Dalit Protesters that actions will be taken against the culprits but Dalit families said that they would not live in the village. Also, Police has stopped Dalit Families on the edges of village requesting them to discuss the issue with the D.C.
