Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour. He was a Jewish preacher and religious leader who became the central figure for Christianity. Christians believe him to be the son of God. Much of what we know about Jesus has been known for the last 2,000 years. Here are 5 things you didn’t know about Jesus Christ:
1. Jews Had A Wife And Kids
In recent years, a new piece of religious text has emerged from the grimy archives of history. A new book dubbed it “The Lost Gospel”. This piece of literature claims that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were in fact married and had several children. Whether or not this is true has been the subject of debate forever, but it’s interesting to think that descendants of Jesus could be out there, somewhere.
2. “Christ” Was Not His Last Name
Jesus last name “Of Nazareth”, making his full name “Jesus of Nazareth”. Actually, Nazareth is a little town located in Northern Israel, known as Israel’s “Arab Capital” because of the large presence of Arabic peoples.
3. Jesus was a Jew
Jesus was born of a Jewish mother, in Galilee, a Jewish part of the world. To call him Christian would be solecism because Christianity as we know it only really gelled after Jesus was crucified.
4. There Are Many Gods Born on “Christmas”
The Roman Sun god Sol Invictus. The Persian god of light Mithra. The Egyptian solar deity Horus. The Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu.
5. Jesus didn’t want to die
As he approaches his death, Jesus prays, “Remove this cup.” It’s a blunt prayer addressed to the father, whom he affectionately calls Abba. He doesn’t want to die.
