K-dramas inspired and adapted from Western television series

Whether it is a modern story or a rural drama, the world of K-dramas offers captivating tales from all around South Korea. But occasionally, it’s necessary to go above and beyond the norm, which is why K-dramas draw influence from Western television series and motion pictures.

The list of K-drama adaptations is broad and includes anything from Money Heist: Korea to Little Women. Let’s explore five K-dramas that rival the quality of their original Western productions

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area (2022)

Money Heist: Korea is set in the Korean Peninsula, where South Korea and North Korea, two nearby countries, have united for economic reasons. It is based on the well-known Spanish television series La Casa De Papel. Yoo Ji Tae, an actor, portrays Professor in the action thriller; Álvaro Morte portrayed the role originally. He and a talented group of crooks plot the greatest theft in history. Kim Ji Hoon as Denver, Lee Hyun Woo as Rio, Park Hae Soo as Berlin, and Jeon Jong Seo as Tokyo are among the other cast members.

Suits (2018)

Suits is a flawless version of the same-named American legal drama. Korean actors Jang Dong Gun and Park Hyung Sik, respectively, depict the amazing team of Michael Ross and Harvey Specter. The plot centers on Choi Kang Seok (Jang Dong Gun), a renowned corporate attorney who takes on the client Go Yeon Woo (Park Hyung Sik), a young attorney. Go Yeon Woo is a dropout and does not hold a law license, so Choi Kang Seok initially doubts his abilities. However, in the end, his photographic memory aids the legal company in solving issues.

Woori the Virgin (2022)

The Korean adaptation of Gina Rodriguez’s American television series Jane the Virgin is called Woori the Virgin. In the K-drama, Im Soo Hyang plays Oh Woori, an assistant drama writer whose life is turned upside down when she visits the clinic for her routine examination and is mistakenly artificially inseminated by a doctor. Things worsen when it is revealed that Raphael (Sung Hoon), with whom Woori has a fascinating past, is the unborn child’s biological father.

Little Women (2022)

Based on a 2019 American film of the same name, Little Women is mostly inspired by it. Similar to the film, the K-drama centers on the lives of three sisters who struggle to overcome both financial and emotional obstacles in order to escape poverty. Park Ji Hu, Nam Ji Hyun, and Kim Go Eun play the roles of the three diverse female characters.

One Ordinary Day (2021)

Criminal Justice, a British television series, has been remade as One Ordinary Day. This show is a must-watch for fans of thrilling mysteries. Similar to the first series, this K-drama exposes the corrupt court system’s shadowy underbelly.Kim Soo Hyun plays a regular college student who gets wrongfully accused of murder. Lawyer Shin Joong Han is the only one who can save him from this mess (Cha Seung Won).
