Cauvery Protest: Here’s the whole matter

Basically, there is a so-called war between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over sharing of the 765-km long Cauvery water. In 2007, the Supreme Court of India awarded Tamil Nadu 419tmcft of water, Karnataka got 270 tmcft, Kerala 30 tmcft and Puducherry 7tmcft, but everyone was disappointed with the decision.
In February, the SC ordered Karnataka to release 177.25tmcft of water to TN instead of 192tmcft. After this ruling, the water war intensified.
On April 8, a group of prominent cinema actors and directors launched a forum to back Tamils’ cause in the state and called for ‘postponement’ of IPL fixtures in the state.”
Superstar Rajinikanth said that hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Chennai at this time when the state is facing a water problem is an embarrassment. He further demanded to shift the matches out of Chennai.
“At a time when the entire state is demanding the CMB, all the hype and hoopla around IPL is embarrassing. It will be good if there are no matches held in Chennai. It cannot be done, at least to echo the sentiments of Tamil people and grab the attention of the entire nation, Chennai players can wear black armbands and play. I urge the BCCI, the IPL administrators and the team management of the CSK to accommodate this.”
