The legendary cricketer Kapil Dev who got India its first world cup in Cricket, was quick to acknowledge Ashwin’s achievement when the latter surpassed his record. Ashwin was able to scalp 435 wickets, beating Kapil’s record of 434 wickets he had achieved in 1994. Theis new record made him the country’s second-highest wicket-taker in the test form of Cricket. Kapil Dev felt it a worthy achievement and congratulated the youngster who achieved this feat when he dismissed Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka in the second innings of the match.
Ashwin’s achievement
Ashwin posted an emotional post on social media, calling the feat a dream come true. Kapil has heartily expressed that Ashwin should cross the 500-wicket mark. He did not stop at that but sent mementos to Ashwin as gifts. Ashwin has acknowledged them on a video that the BCCI uploaded.
In the video, Ashwin said that Kapil had sent him a bouquet of flowers and a handwritten note for crossing his mark. He also remarked it was a sweet gesture by Kapil Paaji (as his friends and others fondly call him).
Ashwin has also acknowledged in the video about legendary greats of the game such as Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and many more. They have made an indelible impact on the game and whose achievements have inspired me to be what he is to this day. He has expressed his gratitude towards such personalities who paved the way for players like him. He was very much indebted to the contribution of such greats to the game and acknowledged that this made them feel humble at achieving whatever they could.
