Recently released dream project ‘Kalank’ of ace director Karan Johar got flop. The film budget was Rs 150 crore but it only earned Rs 66 crore in 7 days at the box office. Due to this, the film’s distributor company Fox Star India has suffered a huge loss.
According to the sources, now Karan Johar will refund the money to it and some other major distributors that were associated with the film. The film Kalank got 4000 screens in India. The length of the film bored the Indian audience.
Along with Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala is also the co-producer of the film but he won’t refund the loss to the distributors. There are two types of deals linked with the film. One between Karan and Sajid and the other is their joined deal with Fox Star. The overall deal with Fox Star was lead by Dharma Productions that’s why only it will refund.
The producers and directors need to understand that gone are the days when people used to look only for superstars in the film. Now people appreciate the unique content or story irrespective of the presence of a big star in the film. Zero, Thugs of Hindostan and now Kalank are a few examples which prove that even big a multi-starrer can flop if there’s no any intriguing story involved.
On the other hand, we saw films like Uri, Stree, Andhadhun, Badhai Ho etc which got hit due to their strong concept and without any superstar cast.
