The case in the upcoming Netflix movie Kathal involves missing jackfruits rather than missing people. Sanya Malhotra plays Mahima Basor, a young police officer tasked with finding a pair of jackfruits that were taken from an MLA’s residence, in the offbeat parody. Produced by Sikhya Entertainment and Balaji Telefilms, Kathal is directed by first-time director Yashowardhan Mishra. On May 19, the comedy will have its Netflix debut.
The movie also features Anantvijay Joshi, Gurpal Singh, Neha Saraf, Vijay Raaz, and Rajpal Yadav in addition to Sanya. Rajpal plays a diligent journalist eager to acquire the inside scoop on the juicy story while Anantvijay plays a fellow cop. The plot, which takes place in the made-up town of Moba, centres on Vijay in the role of Pateria, a politician who files a police report. They are shocked to discover two missing 15 kg jackfruits, or “kathals,” rather than any missing bodies.
The young police officer must attempt to make sense of what is happening and find a solution. She appears to stumble discover a genuine case to look into while conducting her research, and she enlists Rajpal’s assistance to attract some attention.
Fans responded favourably to the forthcoming comedy once the clip appeared on YouTube. One admirer said, “Rajpal + Vijay Sir = You can’t question the content of comedy. Legends…..” Another wrote, “Sanya Malhotra always chooses these kinds of scripts which are different..” Yet another added, “This looks interesting and fresh.”
The movie was produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Guneet Monga, and Achin Jain and was written by Yashowardhan and Ashok Mishra. At the 95th Academy Awards in March, Guneet and Netflix’s The Elephant Whisperers recently took home the Oscar for the Best Documentary Short.
Sanya will soon be seen in Jawan, a Shah Rukh movie. In Meghna Gulzar’s biography Sam Bahadur, the actor plays Vicky Kaushal’s wife. Additionally, Fatima Sana Shaikh is a cast member.
