After 30 years, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro are reunited on screen in the first trailer for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. In this serial murder mystery set in 1920s America, the two Hollywood stars are joined by Jesse Plemons and Lily Gladstone. The movie will make its international premiere on May 20, 2023, at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. It will then be shown in US cinemas in October 2023 before being broadcast on Apple TV+ later that year.
Before the Cannes premiere, the film’s leading man posted the first teaser on Twitter. Leonardo penned: “#KillersOfTheFlowerMoon will exclusively be in theatres from @ParamountMovies & @AppleFilms this October. It’s a project I am proud of & I cannot wait to share it with you all. @lily_gladstone @johnlithgow.”
The teaser, which is based on a historical incident, centres on a string of killings of Osage Nation members in 1920s Oklahoma when oil was found on their property. Investigative work is done by the recently established Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Key roles in the dramatic trailer belong to Leonardo, Lily, and Robert. Brendan Fraser, a recent Oscar winner, is also featured in the teaser.
A fan wrote, “I have been waiting for this ever since I read the excellent book years ago.” Another added, “One of the best trailers I’ve seen in a long time.” While another wrote, “Hairs standing up on my arms. So much talk of the big name actors in this movie – and Lily Gladstone may yet be the one to really watch out for.”
One liner of the teaser stated that, “Can you find the wolves in this picture?”
The drama is one of Martin’s lengthier films, running in at three hours and 26 minutes. It is a strong Oscar contender for the next year and was adapted from David Grann’s best-selling non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, which was published in 2017.
