Lata Mangeshkar, who ruled the country and the world for decades with her melodious voice, has passed away ( Lata Mangeshkar Passed Away ). The ‘Bharat Ratna’-awarded singer breathed her last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was 92 years old. Lata Mangeshkar , known worldwide as the ‘Nightingale of India’ , ruled the female playback singing in Hindi cinema for nearly five decades. Mangeshkar started her career in 1942 at the age of just 13. She has sung more than 30 thousand songs in many Indian languages so far. She has also been awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. Apart from this, she has also been honored with Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Lata Mangeshkar Passed Away
She was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after she was found to be Corona positive in January. She later suffered from pneumonia. She was put on ventilator support after her condition worsened. Ventilator support was also withdrawn after her condition improved. But on 5 February her condition started deteriorating and she was again put on ventilator support. Finally, on February 6, ‘the Nightingale’ breathed her last.
Veteran personalities from all over the world including India have condoled the death of Lata. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted several pictures with Lata and wrote, ‘The kind and caring Lata didi has left us. She has left such a void in our country which will never be filled. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari wrote, ‘Her passing is an irreparable loss to the country. She was always an inspiration to all the music seekers. Lata didi was an intense patriot. Her life has been full of many achievements. Lata ji has always been an inspiration to all of us for good deeds. Her contribution to Indian music is incomparable. Her voice has blessed the music world by singing more than 30 thousand songs. Lata didi was very calm nature and rich in talent. Shiv Sena spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut wrote, ‘What’s to live without you…’

One of the most popular songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar is ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon…’ . Earlier, Lata had refused to sing this song written by Kavi Pradeep, as she was unable to find time for rehearsals. Kavi Pradeep somehow convinced her to sing it. The first performance of this song took place in 1963 at the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. Lata wanted to sing it with her sister Asha Bhosle. Both had also rehearsed it together. But a day before going to Delhi to sing it, Asha refused to go. Then Lata Mangeshkar single-handedly gave voice to this song and it became immortal.

Lata Mangeshkar was surprised to hear this from Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lata Mangeshkar respected each other a lot. Lata used to call him Dadda. There is an interesting anecdote related to both. Lata Mangeshkar had also invited Atal to the inauguration ceremony of the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, named after her father. When he gave his speech at the end of the function, he said- ‘Your hospital is good, I cannot tell you that. To say this means that people get very sick.’ Lata was shocked to hear this and could not say anything.
