Bollywood actress and businesswoman Preity Zinta turned 43 recently on January 31. Zinta was born on 31 January 1975 into a family from Rohru in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh. Although she has seen a lot of ups and downs. From modelling to acting and now being a successful entrepreneur, the glamour world somewhat perturbed her personal life too. Read out some life facts about this beauty of Bollywood.

Lost parents at a tender age:

Her father, Durganand Zinta, was an officer in the Indian Army. He died in a car accident when she was 13 years old. This deadly accident also involved her mother, Nilprabha, who was severely injured and consequently remained bedridden for two years.

The actress called this tragic accident and her father’s death a significant turning point in her life, which forced her to mature rapidly. She has two brothers; Deepankar and Manish, a year older and a year younger respectively. Deepankar is a commissioned officer in the Indian Army, while Manish lives in California. Did you know? She earned a postgraduate degree in criminal psychology but later took up modelling.

Film Career:

Preity Zinta started her acting career from ads and not from films. In 1996, during a friend’s birthday party Preity met a film director. She got her first ad which was an endorsement of a famous chocolate brand. After that, she was featured in a famous soap brand ad. She was originally scheduled to make her screen debut in Shekhar Kapur’s Tara Rum Pum Pum opposite Hrithik Roshan, but the filming was cancelled. Kapur later recommended her for director Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se...And there it is! Dimpled beauty stunned fans with her acting and this is how her Bollywood journey begun. She gave many blockbusters since then.

Shocking facts:

She narrowly escaped death twice in late 2004: first after an explosion at a Temptation concert in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and second during the Indian Ocean earthquake.

In 2008, along with Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman and others, Zinta bought an IPL team Kings XI Punjab. Until 2009, Zinta was the only woman to own an IPL team and was the league’s youngest owner.

Preity filed an FIR against Ness by saying,

“He (Ness) intimidated me by saying he could make me disappear as I was a nobody and only an actress and he’s a powerful person… this incident in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium has left me shattered and fear for my life.”

“He came up to me at my seat and started screaming and abusing me in front of everyone… He used foul language, which was demeaning to my reputation and character.”

She also created a buzz when she shared that she was molested in school,

“So, in school, I went to girl school, there is no eve teasing and all there. There were only Eves. But yes, when I went to Delhi, Yes! I’ve got my but pinched…and I was that you know pink cheeks, very light skin and everybody would be like ooh and then they’d try to tease me and stuff. And then I slapped a couple guys here and there. And then I think one day my brother told me, you are going to get killed, don’t get into all this and then I moved to Mumbai and Mumbai was great.”

The bubbly actress was in a relationship with Ness Wadia but their relationship ended sadly. Soon she found love in American businessman, Gene Goodenough. They tied the knot in a lavish way in the year 2016.
