You have heard many love stories of ancient times from all around the world that make you believe in the power of love. There were couples like Romeo-Juliet, Laila-Majnu, Heer-Ranjha who sacrificed their lives for love. However, today we are going to tell you a story of a couple who is not as famous as these legendaries but do have a unique love story like them.
This is a story of Maryanne and Tommy Pilling. They both met in the year 1995 and got married. They are thought to be the first married couple diagnosed with Down Syndrome in the UK. Today, at present they both are celebrating their 22nd happy year of marriage.
They both proved the assumptions wrong that they can’t live together for years. Tommy proposed Maryanne for marriage after dating her for 18 months. She accepted the proposal and they both got married at a church in Essex. It was like a dream come true for Maryanne as she always dreamt of a big white wedding.
Maryanne is now 45 and Tommy is 59. She said, she and her husband never argue. They both are head over heels in love even now and consider each other as their best friends. Many families look to the couple as proof that those with Down Syndrome can live long, happy lives with people they love.
Maryanne’s mother Linda told that Tommy proposed her daughter Maryanne for marriage with a toy ring he had from a vending machine. Maryanne had swiftly accepted the proposal and took Tommy to a shop to buy a real engagement ring.
