Junk food has always been a great health concern for growing children. Children are generally fascinated with the taste of junk food. Children need the right amount of vitamins and minerals for their growth but lack in these. Continuous consumption of junk food is hazardous to health. Despite its awareness junk food is sold in bulks. This should be considered as a major concern but is often ignored.

“Junk food will be banned in school canteens”

Maharashtra Government is the first government to take a major step against Childhood Obesity. Maharashtra government has strictly issued a notice stating, School canteens should stop selling food which is High in Fat, Salt, and Sugar(HFSS). Instead, these foods should be replaced with better healthy alternatives.

This decision is solely based on the concern of Childhood Obesity. As HFSS foods have a low amount of vitamins and minerals and lead to obesity which further becomes a reason for different diseases. Even the schools are told to spread awareness among students for the high consumption of fast food. As a human body is not meant to metabolize high amounts of artificial sugar, so it converts it into fat. Such high amount of fat can be a cause for Diabetes too.

The government claimed that this Childhood Obesity is drastically affecting the Academics and is a major concern that should be taken seriously. This is indeed a great measure that Maharashtra Government has taken and we hope that this spreads an awareness among students in a positive manner.
