Mumbai police arrested a 53 years old man for selling 1.3 kg of whale vomit! Yes, you read right vomit of a whale. Many of you will feel ewww! after knowing that but did you know a whale’s vomit worth Rupees crores? Yes, whale’s vomit is a waxy substance known as Ambergris.
Ambergris develops as a secretion in the intestines of the sperm whale, found floating in tropical seas and used in perfume manufacture or in other cosmetic products. After getting a tip a joint team of police and forest department officials laid a trap in the Cama Lane of suburban Vidyavihar area and nabbed Rahul Dupare, the culprit who illegally selling 1.3 kg of ambergris (whale vomit) worth Rs 1.7 crore.
One of the senior police officials said, “We seized 1.3 kg of ambergris, worth Rs 1.7 crore, from him. It is a prohibited item. We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act and have arrested Dupare.”
The sperm whale comes in the list of endangered species protected under the Wildlife Act.
