We again failed as a nation, a man in Purnia district of Bihar carried the dead body of his wife on a motorcycle because the government hospital denied him for the mortuary van. 60-year-old, Shankar Sah, a resident of Ranibari village of Purnia district, whose 50-year-old wife, Sushila Devi died of illness.
According to the Hindustan Times, Sah said: “After the death of my wife I was told to take away the body and when I requested the medical staff on duty for a vehicle, to carry it back to my village, they told me to arrange for it on my own.”
Sah and his 32-year-old son then placed Sushila’s body on a motorcycle to transport it to their village home.
She was suffering from tuberculosis as well as heart disease. M M Wasim, civil surgeon of Purnia said, “No mortuary van is available at the Sadar hospital, at present, as the one it had is not functional. So, everyone has to arrange one on his own.”
Meanwhile, a two-member committee has been constituted to look into the incident.
