On July 10, 2019, after India lost semi-final match of World Cup 2019 from New Zealand, million dreams shattered. But there was an Indian man who suffered a lot from this loss. So much that he lost his finger. Yes, you read it right! People were immensely excited and were stuck to the television screens.
But these doctors in Kolkata went beyond as they forgot what they were doing that a man lost his finger that was cut off in an accident. The hospital staff who was taking care of this man named Nikhil Chakraborty was accused of negligence after the portion his finger, cut off in an accident, went missing as he was taken for a surgery to fix it.
Nikhil met with an accident near his workplace. He fell off his bike and a part of his ring finger got cut. He was rushed to a local hospital. According to the surgeon who was looking the case, it was not a clean-cut injury but looked like a pulled-out cut with numerous blood vessels and tendons hanging out. The patient’s wife also told the media that she deposited the severed finger at the emergency on Wednesday and asked them to preserve it.
She claimed that most of the hospital staff members were watching the World Cup India-New Zealand match at that time. Nikhil Chakraborty’s colleague, who brought him to the hospital told NDTV that “He was being taken to the operation theatre when someone asked about the missing part of his finger. I asked his wife and she didn’t know either. Then the hospital staff began looking everywhere, even in garbage. The surgery was scheduled for 9 am but the staff could not find the missing finger part till noon.”
Nikhil’s wife filed a police complaint against the hospital staff for negligence and demanded action against those responsible.
