India is Drooling Over Its New Sports Sensation, Turned Down The Modeling Offer For Table Tennis

With four medals – two golds, one silver and one bronze to her name, Manika Batra has stood out as India’s star performer from the Commonwealth Games 2018. She won four medals in table tennis, and with this, she became the first female player to win 4 medals in the history of this game.

The beautiful and glamorous player, Manika also did fashion modeling during college days. However, in order to focus on tennis, she quit modeling. Manika Batra was born on 15 June 1995 in New Delhi, India.

Did you know? the 19-year-old started playing table tennis at the tender age of 5 and was influenced by her elder sister, Anchal who also plays the game. She even rejected a scholarship to train at the Peter Karlsson Academy in Sweden at the age of 16.

She started pursuing her graduation from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi but just after a year decided to drop out in order to concentrate on table tennis. Manika represented India in table tennis at the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow in 2014 where she was a quarterfinalist.

Achievements

She won two silver medals in the team events and a bronze medal in the singles category at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in December 2015. She went on to win the gold medal in the 2nd division of the World Table Tennis Team Championships in March 2016.

She considers Sachin Tendulkar and Saina Nehwal as her source of inspiration. In 2011, she won the silver medal in the U21 category of Chile Open. Her consecutive wins at the Commonwealth games 2018 made her a new sports sensation of the country.
