Manipur Election Results 2017 LIVE: Tug Of War Between Congress And BJP

The counting of votes in Manipur assembly elections 2017 for 60 seats began at 8 am across the 11 centers. The first election trends and results are expected within an hour. The Congress and BJP here are giving a neck to neck fight to each other as they both get 8 seats each initially. The poll gave the BJP 25-31 seats and the Congress 17-23 in the 60-member assembly, while the CNN-News18-Gramener poll predicted 25 seats for the BJP and 24 for the Congress.

The BJP has also been making an entry in the state since the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi promising to end the economic blockade on Manipur if the party comes to power and accusing Ibobi Singh of running one of the most corrupt governments the state has seen.

Manipur witnessed a voter turnout of 86% in the last phase of polling on 8 March, the highest since the 2009 general election.
