Mark Zuckerberg Successfully Creates His Own AI Based Butler ‘Jarvis’ And This Is How He Is Using It

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s artificial intelligence based software “butler” which he has named Jarvis (inspired from the Iron Man) is now in service and even plays with his family, he said.

Zuckerberg took on the personal project this year, devoting about 100 hours to making a system inspired by the “Iron Man” film character Jarvis as a virtual assistant to help manage his household.

Mark Zuckerberg turns the lights off with Jarvis, his personal AI system.

Giving details, Zuckerberg said he was able to build a simple AI that “I can talk to on my phone and computer, that can control my home, including lights, temperature, appliances, music and security, that learns my tastes and patterns, that can learn new words and concepts, and that can even entertain Max (his daughter)”.

Jarvis can determine when a guest at the door is expected and let them into the home, while notifying the family that someone has arrived, according to the post.

He said his concept uses several artificial intelligence techniques like natural language processing, speech recognition, face recognition and reinforcement learning. It has been written in Python, PHP and Objective C.

A conversational interface lets Zuckerberg type to perform tasks such as turning lights off for the night.

Over the last year, though, Zuckerberg has spent between 100 and 150 hours on his home project. Though it’s named for Tony Stark’s futuristic Jarvis AI in the Iron Man movies, it’s more akin to a homemade, highly personal version of something like Amazon’s Alexa service, letting him and his wife Priscilla Chan use a custom iPhone app or a Facebook Messenger bot to turn lights on and off, play music based on personal tastes, open the front gate for friends, make toast, and even wake up their one-year-old daughter Max with Mandarin lessons.

AI is getting a foothold in people’s homes, starting with devices such as Amazon Echo and Google Home speakers which links to personal assistants to answer questions and control connected devices.
