In the city of Bentonville, Arkansas, an MNC as great as McDonald’s fired one of its workers only for the reason that he was approved HIV positive. Such actions are actually against the laws of almost every country and for the same reason, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit against the operator of that McDonald’s restaurant.
In the complaint against Mathews Management Co and Peach Orchard Inc, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has informed that the worker was fired in the month of February last year.
What’s more shocking about this incident is that the worker was already informed that he might lose his job because another female worker was who was also suffering from this disease, was fired due to the same reason.
The general manager of that McDonald’s store got to know about the worker’s disease when he admitted it to the manager that he was in a relationship with a co-worker and was proved HIV positive in a test.
This Is What Katharine Kores, the district director of EEOC has said about this incident, “People with HIV face enough obstacles in their lives.”
“The ability to work in an environment free of discrimination should not be one of them,” she added.
The operator of the McDonald’s store, Mathews, has been accused of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. He’s not new in the hospitality business and owns 34 McDonald’s restaurants. From last year, there is no comment on this incident by Matthews and Peach Orchard, said the EEOC.
The name of the fired worker is “John Doe” and his duty in that McDonald’s store was only to clean, operate the register, manage the drive-thru window and opening and closing the restaurant. He was hired in the month of November, year 2014 and was fired very soon in the short period of 3 months.
