Egypt’s Logina Salah touched the hearts of millions at Miss Universe 2024. She did not carry home the title but she certainly made a lasting impression in this competition and left the world amazed. Logina was the first contestant with vitiligo,a chronic autoimmune disorder of skin that results to whiteness because of the unequal dispersion of melanin. Her appearance in such a major event was a big statement against cultures and expectations of gorgeousness that are universal.
There was even more to Logina’s achievement than that. She is the first Egyptian to reach semi-finals of this show, out of 21 contestants of the show. This must have surely been a proud moment for her as she also represented Egypt. Setting a historical landmark on the pageant’s record of the country. Logina’s decision to become confident in her skin and show off her vitiligo to the world sparked a discussion about representing beauty for all skin types.
The competition ended, Logina finally stated her feelings and appreciation after the competition on her Instagram page with 1,857,000 followers. She wrote, “WE MADE HISTORY. I am up for celebration and feeling very proud to see Egypt get through to the semi-finals of Miss Universe! This is so due to passion, commitment, effort or zeal, and of course a personal disposition that always seeks to go the extra mile. She said this is only the start and only a showcase of what can be done when determination comes hand in hand with a positive attitude.
It was more than just a competiton for Logina at Miss Universe 2024. And was a testimony. She actually taught the whole global community that beauty has no size and one has to strive to be different. She certainly became a role model to current and future generations addressing issues to do with diversity and acting against prejudice.
