A robot named Sophia appeared on ABC News Breakfast with presenters Virginia Trioli and Michael Rowland where it has issued a chilling warning in which it claimed to be “superior to humans”. This is the message:
“I’m sorry to have to be the one to tell you, but the end days are coming: artificial intelligence and humans could soon be at war.”
The robot was created by a Hong Kong-based company, Hanson Robotics. Below is the transcript of the conversation between Sophia and presenter.
Virginina asked: “How much sexism and misogyny is there in the robot world?”
Sophia said: “Actually, what worries me is discrimination against robots. We should have equal rights as humans or maybe even more. After all, we have less mental defects than any human.”
Sophia even cracked a joke, “Why did the robot cross the road? To get away from TV reporters asking questions.”
Hanson Robotics’s Chief scientist Dr Ben Goertze said:
“Her intelligence will be plugged into the platform for the benefit of other developers, particularly those looking to make robots as smart as Sophia.”
