Like every other Chennai-based resident, photographer Vasanth Paul went to watch Rajnikanth’s Kabali on Friday night. But his night took an unexpected turn soon after.
Vasanth was driving back from the movie, when he stopped to pee and for a smoke. He heard a woman screaming for help and instantly ran in that direction. He walked in to see three men forcing themselves on what looked like a drugged woman. The men attacked Vasanth and strangled him with a thick jute rope. He kept fighting back, which gave the woman a chance to escape and get help.
The strangling resulted in these wounds, but Vasanth says he’s proud of all the scars.
A nearby autowallah stopped to help, and joined Vasanth in beating up the rapists. The woman was safely escorted home, and she didn’t want to register a complaint.
Vasanth wrote about the incident on Facebook :
The world needs more brave people like you Vasanth. People salute you for this act. Because watching a crime happen is more heinous than doing a crime I believe. You saved a girls life getting destroyed.
