Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella launched various new products designed for India, to some extent, also made in India. India-born CEO Satya Nadella is on a three-day visit to India – this move implies that the company is trying to break its traditional Windows and Microsoft Office image and reach to more users in India. Previously, Apple has announced that iPhones will be made in India and for India, in Bengaluru.
Products announced by Microsoft for India works with Aadhaar authentication, enabling a simple and extensive reach.
The new products include a lighter version of video and voice calling app – Skype. The app is to target the mass number of Indian users who own mid-range and low-end smartphones. CEO Nadella also announced a skilling-cum-job search/ hiring platform for low-skilled folks of India.
Built with the help of Mictosoft’s development centre in Hyderabad, the new Skype app is called – Skype Lite, to challenge the popular and user-recommended apps like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger. Skype Lite only requires 13 MB storage in your Android device stead of 36 MB of the regular Skype version. The lighter version of the app is able to understand when it’s using cellular network and when Wi-Fi, and hence consumes less data. Users can also re-share the photo received without downloading or uploading the photo since the sharing happens with Cloud Service.
