Where all the tech giants are focussing on the concept of self-driving cars, Microsoft took a big move in the automotive industry which is quite unique.
They are introducing a new software platform called Microsoft Connected Car Platform that is built around Cortana, instead of making a self-driving car by themselves. This software comprises a whole suite of cloud-based services that make automakers expand their driving experience in their own connected vehicles.
In an announcement, Nissan exposed the concept of Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform, it eligible to handle everything from predictive maintenance to “in-car productivity” and advanced navigation. Microsoft’s EVP of Business Development, Peggy Johnson said, “This is not an in-car operating system or a ‘finished product’, It’s a living, agile platform that starts with the cloud as the foundation.”
This wonderful platform is built upon the set of cloud services provided by Microsoft, called Azure, as well as consist of Cortana, Office 365 and Skype for Business and other productivity softwares.
Nissan will be the first to bring these exceptional features in the automotive space or market built on Microsoft’s platform. During a demo at CES, Carlos Ghosn – the Renault-Nissan Chairman manifested how Cortana will display driver’s schedule, offer shortcuts to various driving destinations and even engage an auto-parking feature.
