On Friday, Ameya Khopkar, leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) warned that his party would not permit the streaming of Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt in India.
“There are plans to release Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s Pakistani film ‘ The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in India. It is most infuriating that an Indian company is leading this plan. Following Raj Saheb’s orders we will not let this film release anywhere in India,” the minister tweeted.
Khopkar who is also a film producer referred to Fawad Khan’s fans as ‘traitors’ in his tweet. “Fawad Khan’s fans, traitors may very well go to Pakistan and watch the film,” Khopkar added in another tweet.
The Legend of Maula Jatt is based on the cult classic Maula Jatt and features Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in the lead roles. The film is one of the highly invested projects in the Pakistani film industry and managed to perform very well at the overseas box office.
The revolves around the feud between Noori Natt portrayed by Hamza Ali Abbasi, the ruthless gang leader and the domestic hero Maula Jatt.
The film is bankrolled by Lashari Films and Ammara Hikmat’s Encyclopedia, imparted by ace cinematographer and distribution strategist Nadeem Mandvivalla under the banner Mandviwalla Entertainment.
