The government has suspended the mobile internet services in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh ahead of a court verdict in a rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Over a lakh supporters of Ram Rahim have already gathered in Panchkula.
According to The Indian Express, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Haryana, Ram Niwas said: “Mobile internet services and data services shall remain suspended in Haryana, Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh for the next 72 hours with immediate effect”.
It is a mutual decision, taken under the chairmanship of the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, Mr. V.P. Badnore, at Punjab Raj Bhawan.
In Sector-9, Chandigarh, a joint room control room of both the states would be set up. Ministry of Railways will also stop all passenger trains coming to Chandigarh for two days. The buses of Haryana Roadways coming to Chandigarh and Panchkula have already been terminated.
