You will see PM Modi spinning “Charkha” not The Father of Nation on the wall of calendar 2017 and table diaries published by the Khadi Village Industries Commission or KVIC. This surprise development has left many government employees with shock.
Modi ji is being seen in his signature outfit of kurta-pajama-waistcoat weaving “charkha” or spinning wheel in the classic pose of Mahatma Gandhi. Whereas, the calendars have always featured Gandhi ji since generations as he founded the Khadi movement in 1920s aiming to boycott foreign goods.
On talking to KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena he said this was “not unusual” and there have been deviations previously also. “There is no question of ignoring Gandhi ji as entire khadi industry is based on his philosphy, ideas and ideals and he is soul of KVIC” Mr Saxena told.
Employees at KVIC protested silently by wearing black bands on their mouth during lunch hour yesterday, whereas, KVIC authorities greet Modi as the new brand ambassador for Khadi.
“Modi’s photograph was used last year’s calendar also but after the protest we were assured that it will not be repeated. It is a attempt to phase out Gandhi” said a senior KVIC staff memeber.
