India’s new Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism, Alphons Kannanthanam, on his first day in office, has touched the most controversial topic in India right now, Beef. Alphons said that the beef will continue to be consumed in Kerela as there is no country wide ban on it and people of each place will decide what they want to eat.
Talking to PTI, Alphons said:
“The BJP does not mandate that beef cannot be eaten. We don’t dictate food habits in any place. It is for the people to decide.”
Alphons further pointed out that Manohar Parrikar, chief minister of Goa in July said that the state would not restrict beef imports from Karnataka to avoid a supply shortage in the state.
So, If Goa (which is ruled by BJP) can eat beef then what’s the problem with Kerela.
Alphons also tried to strengthen the relations between PM Modi and Christian community:
“There was a lot of propaganda in 2014, that if Modi comes to power Christians will be burnt, churches will be demolished.”
In India, Cow slaughter is banned in 21 states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
