Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan and Atlee’s Jawan saw tremendous commercial success because to Shah Rukh Khan, while Ranbir Kapoor scored hits with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Animal in quick succession. The Deols, Sunny, Bobby, and Dharmendra, took back the limelight and each delivered three hits: Animal, Gadar 2, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The year 2023 was a phenomenal one for the box office.
Here is a list of actors who, thanks to their charisma and skill on screen, ruled the Indian movie office during the year.
Shah Rukh Khan
This year, Shah Rukh Khan is the “Badshah” of Indian cinema. It had been four years since his last appearance on the silver screen. In an interview, Anurag Kashyap said that his three films, Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki, had “broken the curse” on Bollywood, despite the latter film’s inability to meet the previous two films’ record-breaking box office totals. Pathaan, a project by Siddharth Anand, brought in Rs 543.09 crore in revenue in India and Rs 1055 crore worldwide. Atlee’s Jawan, on the other hand, began its run with a total collection of Rs 89.5 crore and finished up earning Rs 640.25 crore in India and Rs 1160 crore worldwide.
Ranbir Kapoor
After starring in the disastrous films Shamshera and Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva in 2022, Ranbir Kapoor had great success in 2023 with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Animal. While Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal grossed Rs 539.48 crore, making him one of the highest-grossing performers of 2023, Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy only managed a meager Rs 147.28 crore in India.
Vijay
The actor Vijay is becoming the next great thing in Tamil cinema. The actor made a lot of money at the box office in 2023 with his two successful projects, Varisu and Leo. Varisu, which was met with mediocre reviews from critics and audiences alike, made Rs 60 crore in Tamil Nadu alone before grossing almost Rs 310 crore worldwide. In India, the movie brought in Rs 341.04 crore, while globally, it brought in Rs 605.9 cr.
Rajinikanth
The appeal of Rajinikanth reaches across decades and geographies. Therefore, one can be certain that there will always be money coming in at the ticket booths whenever he releases a film. With Nelson Dilipkumar’s action-packed flick Jailer this year, the actor accomplished the same feat twice. Globally, it brought in more than Rs 650 crore.
The Deols
In 2023, Dharmendra and his two kids, Bobby and Sunny, made a comeback to the spotlight as the Deol family. In the first film of the year, Dharmendra starred in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, where his wheelchair-bound grandfather character left the audience in awe. At the Indian box office, the movie took in a whopping Rs 153.55 crore. Then came Gadar 2, a surprise smash that earned Rs 620.5 crore worldwide and Rs 525.7 crore in India thanks to Sunny Deol’s brand of patriotism. Bobby, the third and youngest Deol, earned the nickname “Lord Bobby” after he brilliantly played a silent but terrifying adversary in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, which brought in a staggering Rs 539.48 crore.
Mammootty
While Mammootty wasn’t able to make as much money at the movie office as the stars named above, his performance was undoubtedly superior. In Jeo Baby’s Kaathal – The Core and Lijo Jose Pelliserry’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, he turned in two standout performances.

An extra special tribute to actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Vijay Varma, Vikrant Massey, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma, who delivered some of the more meaningful content and made sure that the audience was consistently given quality content rather than just mass-produced fare.
