In a weird story from South Africa, a 61 years old woman named Helen Shabangu married 8 years old boy Sanele Masilela. Helen is already married and a mother of 5 children. Ever since the news has come everyone is wondering for the reason behind this weird marriage.
However, Sanele, the 8 years old groom told he married Helen in accordance with the wishes of his dead ancestors, a message his family took so seriously they provided Helen with £500 and paid a further £1,000 for the celebration. Sanele was dressed in a bow tie and tiny silver suit. He is also the youngest of five children of his family, they exchanged rings and kissed each other.
The wedding ceremony started with exchanging of rings in front of 100 guests. The couple even kissed each other following the rituals of a Christian wedding. People got shocked after seeing this weird marriage but the family has defended the ceremony, saying it is a ritual and not a legally binding. The 46 years old mother of Sanele, the groom, Patience Masilela said: “This is the first time this has happened in the family.”
Sanele is named after his grandfather, who has never had a white wedding before he died so asked Sanele to get married. He chose Helen because he loves her. The family believes that by doing this they made the ancestors happy. If they hadn’t done that something bad would have happened in the family. On the other hand, the 61 years old, bride Helen, whose children are aged between 37 and 27, was happy with the arrangement.
She said: “I’m married and have five kids of my own, but I know that this is what the ancestors wanted – and now they are happy. It is a ritual. We are just playing now, but it is a sign that he will get married one day.” Even her husband of 30 years, Alfred, 65, said: “My kids and I are happy.
